Those of you who know me in real life know that I’m a Type A personality all the way. I like for things to be a certain way, and I get disappointed in myself when things don’t go as well as I had hoped. I’m way too hard on myself. Unfortunately, those of us who are like this have a problem with stress. Even if you aren’t like me, chances are that you live a very stressful life (because that’s just the way it is now, right?). I’ll tell you how I beat stress – lavender essential oil!
I recently discovered essential oils. I admit that I was skeptical, but boy was I proven wrong! I only purchased essential oils to make a great homemade toothpaste (which I LOVE). Then a couple of months ago, Sam and I were congested. I used some eucalyptus essential oil, and we were better than if we had used over-the-counter medications.
Lavender Essential Oil
Since I had found success with essential oils, I decided to try to combat all of the stress in my life. I used lavender essential oil from Avenir Oils and haven’t been disappointed in the least! I’m telling you, if you have stress, you’ve got to give this a try!!
I put a few drops of the lavender essential oil on my heat pump filter. Now, every time the air kicks on, we get the benefits. In addition to stress relief, lavender essential oil is good for many, many ailments, including arthritis, indigestion, allergies, cold and flu, depression, muscle aches and soreness, headaches, respiratory issues, and even skin conditions such as acne and eczema!
How to Get Started with Essential Oils
First, read the Beginner’s Guide to Essential Oils to get a good overview. Essential oils are made by extracting oil from plants (either their flowers, leaves, seeds, etc.). Essential oil is very concentrated, so you need very little. There are hundreds of varieties, each used for particular ailments.
Just inhaling essential oils are therapeutic. You can use a diffuser made especially for essential oils or be like me and add droplets to your air filter. You can also rub the oils onto your skin. You need to be cautious here, though, because some are so concentrated that they need to be mixed with other oils (like olive, for example) to avoid irritation. This is called mixing them with carrier oils. Some may be ingested, but you need to be very cautious. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and you need to be comfortable with the oils and know their usage first. They can also be used in lotions, toothpastes, and perfumes.
